Making Mice Cupcakes

Mice Make Good Neighbors!

I’m always looking for a way to share my love for cooking with my grandchildren. Your magazine is always helpful! My granddaughter Avery, 3, had lots of fun making the Mice Cupcakes featured in your Jan/Feb issue (p. 14) and shown in this photo. Sharing them with an elderly neighbor and family brought smiles to all.

Flag-Waving Success

Just got the March/April issue today and have been through it already. I always read cookbooks or magazines with a pad of sticky notes at hand. I flag each recipe that looks like it has potential at the top of the page. And if I want to use it within a day or two,
I put the flag out the side of my magazine. My current issue of Simple & Delicious has flags flying everywhere. Thanks for the great ideas!

Catering to a Crowd

Do you think you’ll ever have recipes that are tailored for large families? We have eight kids—ages 12 and younger. Just thought some other large families might appreciate a grouping of recipes that serve a large number as much as I would. Thanks.

Kid-Approved

This is a photo of my son, Zach, age 8, and daughter, Madi, 10 months, who both love to cook with me. They enjoy looking through your magazine for pictures of what they want to prepare and eat. Thanks for a great magazine!

It’s a Hit!

The Refried Bean Soup (p. 33) in your September/October issue was so delicious! I’ve already made several batches of it and have been passing out the recipes to family and friends.

Where’s the Cinnamon?

Where can I find cinnamon-flavored baking chips, as instructed for the Cinnamon Chip Scones on p. 12 of your November/December issue? I checked the grocery store and didn't see them with the other baking chips. Thank you!
—Julie Mueller
Germantown, Wisconsin

Thanks for the question, Julie. We’re sorry you’re having a hard time finding the chips. Both Hershey’s and King Arthur Flour make cinnamon-flavored baking chips. If you can’t find them in your grocer’s baking aisle, ask the store manager to consider carrying them. Or you can order them on-line from one of the companies mentioned above.

Eagle Eye

In the "'Tis the season for cookies!" (p. 52, Nov/Dec), Holiday Cookie Dough is used in all the recipes in that section. In the photos on page 52, you show the sliced cookies with sprinkles, and they’re very light colored. The recipe for Jolly Santas says it’s made from the same dough, yet the photo of the Santa cookies shows them to be a much different color. Is something missing for the Santa recipe?

Great observation, Marlene! We assure you that nothing is missing from the Jolly Santas recipe. You’re noticing a color difference because the sliced cookies with sprinkles were photographed before going into the oven, while the Jolly Santas were photographed after being baked.

Truly Heart-Warming Meals

I love your magazine! The yummy recipes are easy on the checkbook and don't keep me tied to the kitchen (I have 4 kids ranging in ages from 7 to almost 2), but it also features stories on wonderful people who cook for others.

I loved reading about Ruth Lee from Ontario who, with a group of volunteers, cooks for the families at her local Ronald McDonald House. My oldest child was born with a heart defect and was in the hospital for the first 5 weeks of her life. To be close to her, my husband and I lived in a Ronald McDonald House for 4 of those 5 weeks. No words can express what a blessing it was to come "home" from a long day at our baby's bedside to find hot food waiting for us. I never realized what a joy cooking for others can be, but now I appreciate those who lovingly minister to others through food. Thank you for the nourishment you give, found not only in your delicious recipes, but also in the soul-warming stories of people like Ruth.
